Winter is a beautiful time in western Iowa! Come along with our Naturalist Michelle on a quick winter walk!


Snowy weather doesn't mean the fun stops at Hitchcock Nature Center & your county parks! Take advantage of winter snow & join us for some hiking, snowshoeing, & sledding this winter!  We have some great programming options coming up in December & January, click the links below for more details!

Bird Banding Demonstration

A Pottawattamie County Almanac: December Session

Saturday, December 15: 8:00 a.m. to Noon
Hitchcock Nature Center
This new programming series is modeled on the work of Naturalist Aldo Leopold & combines music & art with science & hands on experience. Our December session will finish out our 2018 programming series with a discussion of animal behaviors in winter including information on winter bird feeding. Read More!

Uncle Buck's Grill at Bass Pro Shop, Council Bluffs
Love nature? Love trivia? This is the event for you! Teams of 2 to 5 people take part in a nature trivia challenge as they compete for prizes from area breweries & wineries. Online pre-registration is required for this free event. Read More!

Holiday Open House

December 21 & 22: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
December 23: 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Stop by some the Loess Hills Lodge for some winter fun during this three day event. Gift shop discounts, make & take crafts, indoor & outdoor activities & more will be available all three days.
