Hitchcock Nature Center has been a favorite place for Katie for more than ten years, so naturally she thought, "What a great place to have a yoga class."
Katie received 200 hours of credit with One Tree Yoga and a additional 300 hours of training with Midfulish School of Thought with instructors from all over the world. Katie has over 500 hours of training and aspires to become a yoga therapist, which will include another 800 hours of training.
Her goal is to help participants feel nature's healing powers and incorporate those feelings and emotions to be present with their 5 senses by slowing down, breathing and really connecting with their body.
Katie’s approach to yoga is deeply influenced by her love of the outdoors. As an avid hiker and nature enthusiast, she sees yoga and time spent in nature as reflections of the same truth:
Both invite us to slow down, breathe deeply, be present, and reconnect to what’s most essential. It’s a perspective beautifully echoed in one of Katie’s favorite lines from the book called Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer: “In some Native languages, the term for plants translates to ‘those who take care of us.” Just as the trees, plants, and fresh air can nurture and restore our mind, body, and soul, Katie believes yoga gives us the chance to do the same for ourselves.
We’re so grateful for Katie’s warmth, wisdom, and generosity and for the reminder that healing is all around us, whether we find it on the mat or the trails. And lucky for you, you can do both here at Hitchcock!
Some fun facts about Katie:
She is a native of Iowa and likes to spend time with her Husband and two dogs. A goal of hers is to visit all the National Parks in the United States and has already visited 18.
