Join avid birder, Nic Salick, for breakfast and birding!
This is a beginner birding program designed to develop your bird identification skills through the use of field marks, build your basic knowledge of birding terminology, and teach you tips and tricks for using binoculars.
Breakfast with the Birds includes an early bird breakfast to get you fueled for classroom-style instruction followed by an adventure through the Loess Hills to put your skills to the test and see how many spring migrants you can spot and identify!
This program can accommodate people of all experience levels but is designed for participants with limited or no field experience.
Please note: Part of this program will take place outdoors and involves pedestrian travel on uneven, dirt trails. Please plan accordingly and leave your pets at home. Binoculars will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
Facilitator: Nic Salick has worked in the conservation field for over a decade, much of which has focused on better understanding birds and their habitats. His work in field ornithology has spanned from the grasslands of the Midwest and Great Plains to the deserts of the Southwest and the wetlands of the central flyway. Previously he worked as a private lands wildlife biologist in the Loess Hills and Missouri River region where he supported landowners and farmers to incorporate wildlife and improve their habitat offerings. Currently, Nic is a Development Officer for the Nature Conservancy in Nebraska. Even when not at work he has nature on the brain. He enjoys hiking the Loess Hills, birding, hunting behind his trusty dog Greta, and enjoying a book in his hammock.
