Can you give us and local zoo animals a hand?

Have you ever wondered where all the food for the large herbivores--think elephants, rhinos, and giraffes--at the zoo comes from? Believe it or not, much of it comes from Hitchcock Nature Center! We have teamed up with Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium to make good use of the woody vegetation that our Natural Areas Management Team removes from the park. Our prairies benefit from the removal of woody vegetation and the zoo animals do too!

On Thursday, July 6th, we need volunteers to help drag brush down off the hill at Mount Crescent Ski Area so the zoo crew can load it onto trailers. Volunteers are needed from 8am to 12pm.

Pre-registration is required.  Please meet in the parking lot at Mount Crescent Ski Area, 17026 Snowhill Ln, Honey Creek, IA. Before registering be sure to read our Activity Liability Waiver here.

What to wear and bring:

  • Long pants
  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes
