Join us on Saturday, November 14th at 9:00 a.m. for the next session of a new 2020 programming series, "A Land Ethic Workshop". Join instructor Ron Cisar as we celebrate the life & legacy of famous naturalist & philosopher Aldo Leopold. Our November 14th session will focus on Leopold's essays "Odyssey" & "A Mighty Fortress".

Participants in this session will study & learn:

  • The process of nature's annual decomposition
  • The organisms responsible for breaking down organic matter in nature
  • Nature's changes that you can watch for during the month of November

This program is intended for participants age 14 & over with an interest in the natural world, no experience or prior knowledge is required to participate. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283. Cost for this program is $10.00 per person per individual session. *Participants do not need to attend every session to enjoy this programming series.

Due to COVID-19 the format of this program has been adjusted. This event will no longer be held in person at Hitchcock Nature Center & will instead be held online using Zoom. 

Participants should note that classes held online will require an internet connection & the use of Zoom.

About "A Land Ethic Workshop"

"A Land Ethic Workshop" will focus on the work & life of naturalist & Iowa native Aldo Leopold. Each month participants will explore a new work by Leopold coupled with hands on activities such as hikes, aquatic studies, guest lectures, sketching, journaling and more.

Programs are from 9:00 a.m. to noon, occur monthly March through December, & are held at Hitchcock Nature Center. Participants may register for individual sessions or opt to attend all 2020 sessions. Participants do not need to attend every program session. Individual sessions are $15.00 per person & our full programming series of 10 sessions is $75.00.

Participants should note that classes will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will at times require pedestrian travel over difficult terrain; some sessions may be physically challenging. Portions of each session will occur outdoors, students should come prepared for the weather & the elements.

Meet at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center.

This event is not pet friendly, service animals are always welcome.

Cancellation Policy

Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the first day of the event by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be refunded. Program fees for events cancelled by Pottawattamie Conservation for any reason will be refunded.
