This event is held in coordination with National Trails Day, an annual celebration dedicated to empowering everyone to become a trail steward and leave outdoor spaces better than we found them.
This volunteer event is perfect for hardworking helpers who aren't afraid to get a little dirty while assisting with trail repair and maintenance on National Trails Day. Due to the steep topography in the Loess Hills, portions of various trails, including Badger Ridge, Turkey Run, and Hohneke Trail, have suffered significant erosion and damage from rain and foot traffic. We need YOUR help to repair these trails, improve the visitor experience, and protect this ecologically significant area.
Pre-registration is required. Please meet in the Bluestem Room at Hitchcock Nature Center's Loess Hills Lodge. Training, a safety briefing, and lunch (at the beginning of the shift) will be provided. Before registering, be sure to read our Activity Liability Waiver here.
