Join us for Pottawattamie Conservation's annual Maple Tree Tap event at Botna Bend Park in Hancock, Iowa on Saturday, March 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This program will introduce you to the basics of syrup making from tapping the trees to bottling the final product. If temperatures are cooperative and the sap is flowing participants can even taste the sweet sap as it flows from the tree. 

This event will begin at 11:00 a.m. & attendees must arrive no later than 3:00 p.m. to participate. Upon arrival attendees will visit our check in station for information then proceed through a variety of stations exploring different aspects of the syrup making process from the tapping to the bottling & everything in between. Please allow 45 minutes to 1 hour to make your way through all of our event stations. This event will be held entirely outdoors, please dress for the weather & wear appropriate footwear. This event is open to participants of all ages but will include pedestrian travel over uneven surfaces, strollers are not recommended.

Cost is $3.00 per person, children age 3 & under are free & do not need a reservation. Cost includes admission to the park & all programming. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited.

*In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather participants will be notified via the email address provided during registration.

Due to COVID-19 the format of this program has been adjusted. 

  • 6-foot distance will be maintained between individuals/family groups
  • Masks required while inside and requested when distancing is impossible outside
  • This program will be held primarily outdoors
  • Staff will wear masks when 6-foot distance is not possible or indoors
  • Participants must sign a participation waiver upon arrival

This event is not pet friendly, please leave your canine friends at home. Service animals are always welcome. Please meet at Olsen Lodge. Weather Permitting.

 

 

Cancellation Policy

Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the program date by calling 712-545-3283 and speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 1 week (7 days) in advance of the event will not be refunded. Fees for programs cancelled by PCC due to weather or other circumstances will be refunded.
